#9. Processed meats do cause cancer
Cancer Research UK named processed meat to be one of the causes of bowel cancer, with 21% of bowel cancers linked to eating processed meat. There were 41,581 new cases of bowel cancer in the UK in 2011. By this statistic, 8,732 of these cases were caused by eating too much processed meat.
Cancer Research UK also states that eating more than 25-50 grams of processed meat a day increases your risk of developing bowel cancer by 9-50%. Reducing our intake of processed meats would reduce the chance of bowel cancer, but exact numbers differ in different studies. Source: cancerresearchuk.org
