Pope John Paul II, has died in the Vatican following a series of illnesses.
The Polish-born pontiff, one of the longest-serving Popes, was 84.
The Vatican said in a brief statement that Jean Paul had died in his private apartments at 2137 local time (1437 EST) on Saturday after suffering from heart and kidney problems. Source
