This is not the reason why these things are gathered, nor the purpose of tantra. Tantric practices, as spooky as they may be, are NOT designed to be used for the personal gain of the practitioner. Indeed, the opposite is true. Tantra often involves putting the practitioner in environments and situations of both great desire, and also of great fear, with the aim of removing their attachment to the physical world. This is described as following the ‘left hand path’ towards God. They are considered to be extremely dangerous to the practitioner, and not to be attempted without the aid of a Guru. The orthodox method or ‘right hand path’ (comprising of bhakti yoga and karma yoga, aka prayer and service) is said to take longer, but obviously be much safer.

If you’d like to read an extremely detailed and well written book on the subject of tantra, as practiced by the Aghori people native to India, then look for the book Aghora: At The Left Hand Of God by Robert Svoboda. All the information I just gave was in the preface to the book, as I am reading it now, though many have told me it covers all aspects of tantra. Also it’s absolutely fascinating!!!!
